Kuwait's Blue Team concludes preparations ahead of the Gulf Cup
Tomorrow, the national senior football team will conclude its training sessions at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, the venue that will host the opening match of the 27th Gulf Cup (Khaleeji 27) tomorrow. The tournament, hosted by the Kingdom, will run from the day after tomorrow until October 6, featuring eight Gulf national teams divided into two groups.
The Blue Falcons will compete in Group A alongside the national teams of Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Iraq, while Group B will comprise the national teams of Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Yemen.
The national team will kick off its tournament campaign against host Saudi Arabia in the first round of Group A, which will also feature a match between Oman and Iraq. Meanwhile, matches in Group B will continue on Thursday.
Technical and Physical Readiness
Under the guidance of Portuguese coach Hélio Sousa, the national team is fully prepared both technically and physically. All players attended the recent training sessions ahead of the main practice today at the match venue. None of the players included in the initial tournament squad (26 players) will leave the team camp once the competition begins. All will remain in camp and participate in training, given the possibility of emergency changes due to injuries during the tournament, ensuring that any player added to the squad is ready.
Over the past few days, Sousa and his coaching staff have focused on implementing the technical match plan, covering both defensive and offensive aspects, while also working to finalize the lineup for the opening match, based on an analysis of the Saudi team’s capabilities.
The technical staff is also concentrating on preparing the players mentally, given the expected fan pressure during the opening match and the strength of the opponent, which requires special preparation for the players to handle these circumstances.
Limited Changes
Sousa is expected to depart from his usual policy of rotation and continuous changes to the team lineup from one match to the next. The coach is known for relying on two sets of players, with each set playing consecutive matches. However, Sousa may avoid this approach during the tournament to maintain the mental and technical focus of a single lineup, making only limited changes as required by the demands of the matches and the nature of the opponents’ performance.
