Director of the French Institute in the country: Thousands of Kuwaitis have learned French
Mia Al-Sakri – Olivier Guiffan, the French Ambassador to the country, affirmed that the continued cooperation with Al-Amali Holding Group and its support for the French Institute in Kuwait contribute to strengthening the presence of French culture and expanding the horizons of cultural dialogue. He praised the depth of the human and cultural ties linking the two countries.
This statement came during the signing of a new agreement between Al-Amali Holding Group and the French Institute in Kuwait, under which the group renewed its commitment to supporting the institute’s cultural and educational activities.
Sheikh Mubarak Abdullah Al-Mubarak, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al-Amali Holding Group, stated that the French Institute is a distinguished cultural institution that has served successive generations in Kuwait. He recalled that his mother was among the institute’s attendees when it was known as the “Voltaire Institute,” reflecting the depth of its presence in Kuwaiti society and the extension of its influence across generations.
For her part, Souria Saad, the Cooperation and Cultural Affairs Advisor at the French Embassy and Director of the French Institute in Kuwait, affirmed that the institute has contributed to teaching the French language to thousands of students over the past years. She noted that it currently hosts hundreds of Kuwaiti students, while its alumni network includes doctors, lawyers, military personnel, and specialists in various professional fields.
She explained that one of the French language teaching courses launched on September 6 of this month, with a new course scheduled to begin next November. She added that each course lasts approximately two months, after which students may take exams to obtain accredited certificates.
Saad emphasized that the institute’s role is not limited to teaching the French language and organizing cultural activities, but also extends to supporting cooperation in scientific research and archaeology. She pointed to a long-standing Kuwaiti-French partnership in archaeological missions, particularly on Failaka Island.
She revealed that two French archaeological missions will return to Kuwait within days, set to commence their work simultaneously, as part of the ongoing research and archaeological cooperation between the two countries.
