Real Madrid suffer new defeat under Mourinho; Atletico Madrid win Madrid derby

Real Madrid, under the guidance of Portuguese manager José Mourinho, suffered their second defeat in the Spanish league after losing 2-0 to Atlético Madrid in the capital derby, in the seventh round of La Liga. Atlético opened the scoring through Alejandro Grimaldo from a penalty in the 53rd minute, before Jonathan David added the second goal in the 59th minute. Real Madrid defender Dani Huisgen was sent off in the 51st minute, leaving his team to finish the match with ten men.

Real Madrid had previously suffered their first defeat against Real Betis in the fourth round, while winning five of their seven matches since the start of the season.

With this loss, Real Madrid dropped to third place with 15 points, while Atlético Madrid climbed to second with 16 points. Barcelona leads the table with a perfect record of 21 points.

Real Madrid could drop to fourth place if Real Betis beats Deportivo La Coruña, as Betis currently have 15 points before their match. A victory would move Betis up to second place, one point ahead of Atlético Madrid.
