AFP, citing a Turkish official: Erdogan to run for a new term

According to a report by the French news agency AFP, citing a Turkish official, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will run for a new presidential term in early elections scheduled for 2028. Erdoğan’s advisor, Mehmet Özhaseki, had previously proposed in June that the elections be held on April 16, 2028, thereby allowing the Turkish president to seek an additional term. The Turkish Constitution permits the president to run for a new term if the parliament decides to hold early elections during his second term.
