Kuwaitis Ubaid and Abdullah Al-Rafidi crowned Asian champions in jiu-jitsu

Kuwaiti brothers and champions Obaid and Abdullah Hamoud Al-Rafidi capped off a distinguished career by competing in 30 matches across five tournaments, including three international jiu-jitsu championships, where they each secured first place and gold medals in their respective age categories at the AJP Asia Championship. The event concluded recently in Abu Dhabi, the UAE capital, drawing significant participation from over 2,000 athletes across various age groups and weight classes. Muhammad Salem Al-Zahiri, Vice President of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, and Yusuf Abdullah Al-Batran, a member of the federation’s board of directors, presented the gold medals to the Kuwaiti and Asian champions, amid praise from the technical and administrative staff present at the tournament for the advanced level of the two athletes despite their young age.

The brothers’ participation in the championship followed their achievement of first place and gold medals over the past three months in the Grand Prix tournament in Istanbul, the AJP Turkey Championship, the AJP Qatar Championship, and the AJP and Grappling Industries tournaments in Kuwait. They won 15 medals across these six tournaments in just three months, culminating in their most recent triumph with the Asian gold medal. The brothers expressed their pride in representing Kuwait in the desired manner and elevating the country’s name in these international and regional arenas, reaffirming their ongoing commitment to continuing their winning streak in upcoming championships. They are currently preparing to compete in the Qatar International Championship next month in Doha, the Qatari capital.
