Child Muhammad Al-Zeinati: Courage that ended in martyrdom

The young boy, Muhammad Al-Zaynati, did not hesitate to attempt to rescue a paramedic in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood in western Gaza City after seeing him injured in an occupation airstrike. However, another strike targeted the area, killing Al-Zaynati. Muhammad had been returning from a Quran memorization session when he spotted the wounded paramedic. He rushed to his aid barefoot, trying to rescue and assist him, before being hit by a second missile that killed him beside the paramedic. The boy did not stop despite the danger of the scene, nor did he think about his own safety, being more preoccupied with trying to save the injured man—a stance that reflects great courage despite his young age. Muhammad’s friends said he was known for his chivalry and quickness in helping others, traits that were evident in his final moments as he rushed to assist the injured paramedic. At Al-Shifa Hospital, Muhammad’s father received the news of his son’s martyrdom before standing before his body in a moment where feelings of loss and grief over a child who could not complete his life were intertwined. His father, weeping, said, “I never enjoyed his youth,” expressing the pain of losing his son at such a young age. Muhammad Al-Zaynati’s martyrdom comes amid the ongoing genocide war in the Gaza Strip, once again highlighting the occupation’s crimes against civilians, children, the elderly, and women, even while they are trying to help the injured.
