Israeli announcement: 1,100 tons of explosives used to detonate Ali al-Tahir heights in Lebanon

Massive explosions rocked areas in southern Lebanon following operations carried out by the Israeli occupation army on the Ali al-Tahir heights, amid reports of large quantities of explosives being used to destroy tunnels in the region. Channel 12, an Israeli network, cited sources stating that more than 1,100 tons of explosives were used to detonate tunnels on the Ali al-Tahir heights. For its part, the Israeli occupation army announced that the explosions were carried out after it imposed what it described as “operational control” over the area, both above and below ground, noting that the objective was to destroy the tunnel infrastructure in the highlands. The explosions coincided with the U.S. Geological Survey detecting a magnitude 4.1 earthquake in southern Lebanon, amid reports that residents in surrounding areas felt the tremors caused by the blasts. The Ali al-Tahir heights are among the strategically significant areas in southern Lebanon and have witnessed repeated Israeli airstrikes, shelling, and explosions over the past months.
