Saudi Arabia: 73 civilians injured in Houthi militia strikes on civilian and economic targets
Saudi Arabia strongly condemned on Tuesday the Houthi militia’s attacks on civilian and economic infrastructure in Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jizan, and Najran, which resulted in the injury of 73 civilians, including women and children, alongside the militia’s continued targeting of commercial vessels in the Red Sea and threats to international maritime navigation.
In a statement, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated the Kingdom’s firm rejection of the hostile and criminal conduct that the militia has persisted in, which threatens the security and stability of Yemen and its Arab and Islamic surroundings, as well as its consistent rejection of all peace efforts. It affirmed the Kingdom’s legitimate right to take all necessary measures to defend its sovereignty, safeguard its national assets, and protect the security and safety of its citizens and residents within its territory, stating that it will not tolerate any aggression targeting its land and assets, in accordance with international law.
The ministry warned against the dangers of the Houthi militia’s continued targeting of innocent civilians and civilian facilities, emphasizing the urgent need for an immediate halt to all forms of escalation carried out by the militia and its ongoing threats to maritime security. It called on the international community to assume its responsibilities and implement relevant UN Security Council resolutions, foremost among them Resolution 2216 (2015) and Resolution 2722 (2024).
Separately, the Saudi Ministry of Energy announced on Tuesday that several energy sector facilities and infrastructure in the southern region of the Kingdom were targeted, leading to varying degrees of injuries among citizens and residents, fires at several sites, and a temporary suspension of some operational activities.
The Saudi Press Agency quoted a senior official in the ministry as saying that “specialized field teams have begun containment operations for the fires, secured the sites, and assessed the damages.” He added that necessary medical care was provided to the injured, with ongoing assessment and follow-up efforts.
The official confirmed that relevant authorities are continuing to address the repercussions of the attacks and taking necessary measures to ensure the safety of facilities and personnel, as well as the continuity of operations in accordance with approved operational plans.
