Saudi Arabia develops a massive tourist destination on the Khafji coast

In a major project aimed at enhancing the region’s appeal for residential living and tourism, leveraging Al-Khafji’s strategic location, its proximity to Kuwait, and its easy accessibility from Gulf countries, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) announced on Monday the launch of “Gulf Coast Real Estate Development Company” to develop an integrated residential and tourist destination along the city’s coastline overlooking the Arabian Gulf. The initiative responds to the growing demand for residential and tourism options in the northern part of the Eastern Province of the Kingdom.

In a statement, the fund said the project spans an area of approximately 20 square kilometers, with a 10-kilometer waterfront. It highlighted that Al-Khafji’s strategic location provides easy access to the destination from various regions of the Kingdom, Kuwait, and other Gulf states, while also contributing to creating direct and indirect employment opportunities for local residents.

Upon completion, the destination is expected to include eight residential neighborhoods offering more than 16,000 housing units, alongside approximately 1,400 hotel units, a comprehensive mix of public, commercial, tourism, and educational facilities, as well as dedicated areas for boat marinas.

The project will be developed in three main phases, with the first phase scheduled for completion by 2030. This initial phase will encompass three neighborhoods, paving the way for the creation of an integrated residential and tourism community that supports sustainable development and enhances quality of life.

Saud Al-Karoud, Head of the Local Real Estate Investments Department at the Public Investment Fund, stated that the fund continues, through its projects in the domestic real estate sector, to stimulate and unlock the potential of strategic sectors and strengthen their integration within the Kingdom’s six economic systems, in line with the 2026–2030 strategy, thereby reinforcing its role as an active partner in economic development.
