Kuwait before the "Arab Consultative Ministerial": We must move from political solidarity to deterring aggression
Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Hamad Al-Mushaan chaired today (Monday) the Kuwaiti delegation participating in the consultative meeting of Arab foreign ministers and the Arab League Council meeting at the ministerial level, during its 166th regular session, held at the headquarters of the Arab League Secretariat in Cairo. The two meetings discussed recent developments in regional situations and efforts to enhance security and stability in the region, as well as ways to support joint Arab action and debated items on the agenda.
In his speech on behalf of Kuwait before the Arab League Council, Al-Mushaan reaffirmed Kuwait’s steadfast position in confronting Iranian aggression and the attacks by its proxies, and its resolve to safeguard its security and sovereignty. He reiterated Kuwait’s full solidarity with brotherly and friendly countries subjected to these attacks, calling for the crystallization of a unified, clear, and firm Arab position in confronting attacks on Arab countries, regardless of their source.
He also renewed Kuwait’s condemnation of Israeli aggression against Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon, emphasizing the need to develop mechanisms for joint Arab action and to advance the concept of Arab collective security from political solidarity to deterrence and prevention, while strengthening the role of the Arab League in translating common positions into effective action and tangible results.
Al-Mushaan appreciated regional and international efforts aimed at de-escalation in the region, stressing that the success of de-escalation tracks requires a complete halt to aggression, respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, and guaranteeing freedom and security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law.
The 166th regular ministerial session of the Arab League Council began yesterday, with the participation of Arab foreign ministers or their representatives, to discuss developments in the region, foremost among them the unjust Iranian aggression against several Arab countries, as well as updates on the Palestinian issue and situations in Syria, Sudan, Libya, Yemen, and Somalia.
Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Nafati chaired the session after assuming the presidency from the Kingdom of Bahrain, represented by its Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Ambassador Fouzia Zainal. Nafati called for the development of an Arab monitoring and early warning mechanism capable of identifying security challenges and threats and intervening in a timely manner before they escalate, thereby enhancing stability in fragile areas.
In a speech delivered during his chairmanship of the 166th regular session, he stated that the Arab region is witnessing unprecedented and highly sensitive developments resulting from the rapid military escalation in the Gulf and Middle East regions, with serious repercussions on regional and international security and stability, and posing a threat of expanding tensions and worsening the suffering of the region’s peoples.
He reaffirmed Tunisia’s commitment to the provisions of international law, the UN Charter, and the Arab League Charter, as well as respect for the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of states. He expressed his country’s full solidarity with the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, Jordan, and Iraq, and condemned the aggression and violations affecting their sovereignty, security, and stability. He called for an end to military operations, the predominance of wisdom and dialogue, and the peaceful resolution of differences and disputes, building on efforts and initiatives aimed at containing crises and preventing their expansion.
