Health Ministry: Launch of the Retina and Vitreous Surgery Unit at the Ophthalmology Department in Jahra Hospital

The Ministry of Health launched today, Monday, the Retina and Vitreous Surgery Unit in the Ophthalmology Department at Al-Jahra Hospital, coinciding with the successful performance of the hospital’s first precise and complex retinal surgery. This marks an important step toward developing and expanding ophthalmic medical and surgical services across the State of Kuwait.

In a press statement, the Ministry of Health said that Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Otaibi successfully performed the first precise retinal surgery at Al-Jahra Hospital, signaling the commencement of retinal and vitreous surgery services at the facility. This initiative is part of efforts to bring specialized medical services closer to patients and reduce the need to refer cases to other hospitals.

According to the statement, Dr. Ahmed Al-Fudari, Chairman of the Ophthalmology Department at the Ministry of Health, emphasized that the launch of the unit completes the Council’s vision to provide a comprehensive range of therapeutic and specialized services in ophthalmology across all regions of the country. This enhances the geographical distribution of specialized services, facilitating patient access and improving the quality and efficiency of the healthcare provided.

Dr. Al-Fudari praised the medical and organizational efforts undertaken by Dr. Hussein Al-Ansari, Head of the Ophthalmology Department at Al-Jahra Hospital, in preparing for the unit’s launch and equipping the department to deliver this type of precise, specialized surgery.

He clarified that the launch of the Retina and Vitreous Surgery Unit represents a qualitative addition to the ophthalmic services system at Al-Jahra Hospital, and constitutes a new step within the Ministry of Health’s plan to develop and expand precise medical services in its hospitals, thereby enhancing access to specialized care and elevating its quality and efficiency.
