"The Singer Who Revives the Soul": Mohammed Mohsen Recaptures the Memory of Arabic Song
Egyptian singer Mohamed Mohsen is preparing to meet his Kuwaiti audience at a musical evening celebrating the richness and history of Arabic song. The event, titled “The Singer is the Life of the Soul,” is scheduled for the 24th of this month at the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Cultural Centre, in the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ali Concert Hall, featuring a musical orchestra led by maestro George Qalita.
During the evening, Mohsen will present a curated selection of songs representing key milestones in the history of Arabic music, ranging from the works of the late composer Sayed Darwish to examples of contemporary Arabic song. The journey will revisit classics that have shaped the artistic and emotional memory of successive generations over more than a century.
Ali Al-Nisf, the executive producer and co-founder of Al-Jabriya Al-Horra, the production company behind the event, explained that the concept of “The Singer is the Life of the Soul” is based on a vision that regards Arabic musical heritage as a “living and evolving legacy.” He noted that Mohamed Mohsen was chosen for his authentic voice and his ability to perform this style of music in a manner that preserves its artistic value while remaining relatable to today’s audience.
Al-Nisf added that the evening does not merely aim to re-present timeless songs, but also to evoke the stories and circumstances associated with them, and to reflect on their impact on Arab memory, thereby offering the audience an experience that transcends the mere act of listening to music.
For his part, Jasem Al-Qamous, the creative director of the event, stated that the artistic vision stems from presenting the song as a “story, memory, and shared experience.” He highlighted Mohamed Mohsen’s ability to build direct communication with the audience through dialogue, sharing stories, and singing with them.
Al-Qamous added that the concert will take the audience on a journey through various milestones and songs that have left a significant mark on the Arab emotional landscape, accompanied by the orchestra led by maestro George Qalita. This experience underscores the fact that authentic music remains capable of transcending time and maintaining its presence in the hearts of successive generations.
