Minister of Public Works: Green Mobility Forum Supports Gulf States' Orientation Toward More Efficient and Sustainable Transport Solutions
Kuwait’s Minister of Public Works, Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan, emphasized on Friday the importance of participating in the Second Gulf Green Mobility Forum held in the Sultanate of Oman, highlighting its role in supporting Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries’ shift toward more efficient, sustainable, and low-carbon transport solutions.
In a statement to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) following the conclusion of her participation in the forum, hosted in Salalah, Dhofar Governorate, Dr. Al-Mashaan noted that the event brought together officials, experts, and specialists from GCC member states, including Omani Minister of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, Eng. Saeed Al-Maawali, and Kuwait’s Ambassador to the Sultanate, Dr. Mohammed Al-Hajeri.
Dr. Al-Mashaan described the Gulf forum as a valuable opportunity to exchange experiences and learn about modern projects and initiatives that support the development and enhancement of transport systems, improving their efficiency and sustainability. This aligns with the strategic directions of Kuwait and other GCC member states toward more efficient, sustainable, and low-carbon mobility solutions.
She added that Kuwait’s participation in the forum aims to strengthen Gulf cooperation and facilitate the exchange of expertise in transport, infrastructure, logistics, sustainable mobility, and green energy-based initiatives and projects.
The forum, held under the patronage of Dhofar Governor Marwan Al-Said and concluded on Thursday, showcased the latest Gulf initiatives and projects in sustainable mobility, while highlighting Oman’s efforts to develop a more efficient, sustainable, and low-carbon transport system in line with the objectives of “Oman Vision 2040” and the goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
The closing ceremony saw the announcement of a package of agreements, projects, and initiatives in transport, logistics, and green mobility sectors, with a total value exceeding OMR 600 million (approximately USD 1.6 billion). It also featured the launch of Oman’s national “Shahin” application for electric vehicle charging services, the adoption of the regulatory framework for electric charging point operators, and the establishment of service fee pricing mechanisms.
Additionally, the event highlighted green mobility investments in Oman, which surpassed OMR 320 million (USD 831.6 million) in 2025. These investments covered projects in ports, marine fuels, shipping, electric mobility, fast-charging centers, and supporting technologies and solutions.
Among the projects announced during the ceremony were the commissioning of Oman’s first hydrogen production, supply, and distribution station in partnership with Shell Oman, and the operation of the first 15 light-duty hydrogen vehicles powered by green hydrogen. Other initiatives included ship recycling projects, shore power supply for docked vessels, and the establishment of an integrated facility for producing and supplying green methanol to ships.
