Kuwaiti woman donates $2.5 million to rebuild a school in Syria

The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development signed a grant agreement with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) worth $2.5 million to contribute to the reconstruction of the Biriya school in the Khan al-Shih camp in Syria.

The Fund’s Acting Director General, Rashid Al-Badr, said after signing the grant agreement remotely yesterday (Thursday) that the Fund’s contribution involves carrying out reconstruction works for the school, equipping its facilities and related infrastructure, and also supporting the continuity of educational services provided to Palestinian refugees.

Al-Badr added that the signing of the agreement reflects Kuwait’s steadfast commitment to supporting its Palestinian brothers, and its belief that education is a fundamental human right and a key pillar for building a sustainable future.

It is worth noting that this grant is the fourth provided by the Fund in cooperation with UNRWA, as part of the Fund’s keenness to support developmental and humanitarian projects that contribute to improving living conditions and enhancing basic services for Palestinian refugees.

On another front, the Fund signed a grant agreement yesterday (Thursday) with the Interconnection Authority of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries worth 200,000 Kuwaiti dinars (approximately $647,100 US) to finance a feasibility study for interconnecting with electricity networks outside the GCC system.

In a statement to KUNA, the Fund said the study aims to explore opportunities to expand the scope of Gulf electricity interconnection to include networks in neighboring countries, thereby contributing to enhancing the exchange of electrical energy and supporting regional cooperation in the energy sector. This will be achieved by studying the electricity needs of neighboring countries and assessing the feasibility of interconnection with them from both technical and economic perspectives.
