Kuwaiti support for the Gulf Cooperation Council electricity interconnection system

The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy hosted a delegation from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Interconnection Authority at the Al-Wafra Power Station, which is under the authority’s jurisdiction, as part of cooperation, coordination, and the exchange of expertise in the fields of electricity and the GCC power grid interconnection.

In a press statement issued on Thursday, the ministry said the visit included a field tour of the Al-Wafra Power Station, during which the GCC delegation reviewed the nature of operations and the operational systems at the plant, as well as its role within the GCC power interconnection system and its contribution to supporting energy exchange operations and enhancing the reliability and stability of the interconnection among GCC member states.

The ministry noted that the visit also came in support of joint efforts aimed at developing the GCC power interconnection system and improving its efficiency and reliability.

The visiting delegation was led by Ahmed Al-Ibrahim, Chief Executive Officer of the GCC Interconnection Authority; Mohammed Al-Sheikh, Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Networks; Ahmed Al-Rumaiti, Agent at the Energy Department in Abu Dhabi; and Issa Al-Zarouni, Vice President for Operations at the Emirates Water and Electricity Company.

The delegation was received by Hitham Al-Ali, Assistant Undersecretary for Power Plants and Desalination Plants at the ministry; Fatima Jawhar Haya, Assistant Undersecretary for Monitoring, Control and Supervision Centers; and a number of ministry officials and engineers.
