Kuwait’s Minister of Education, Sayyid Jalal Al-Tabatabaei, approved a new curriculum system (tracks) for the secondary stage today, Thursday, with its pilot implementation starting in the 2026–2027 academic year across 12 schools distributed among all educational districts.

In a statement, the Ministry of Education said that Minister Al-Tabatabaei issued a decision assigning the Deputy Minister of Education to oversee the preparatory measures for launching the curriculum system (tracks), take the necessary executive actions regarding it, and submit any items requiring the Minister’s approval.

The ministry added that this will be carried out through coordination between the ministry’s sectors, educational districts, and relevant authorities, ensuring the readiness of the educational and administrative systems to begin implementation according to clear and well-considered foundations.

The decision confirmed that its provisions apply only to students wishing to enroll in the curriculum system (tracks), while the existing secondary education system will continue to apply to students not covered by the new system, meaning the decision will not result in any changes to their current study system.

The ministry clarified that the approval of the system comes within the framework of its trend toward developing secondary education and creating a more flexible model that places the learner at the center of the educational process, giving them a genuine opportunity to discover their abilities and interests at an early stage before deciding on the academic track that best suits their capabilities and future aspirations.

It noted that the curriculum system (tracks) spans three academic years, divided into six semesters, totaling 54 academic units. The tenth grade serves as a common foundational year for all students, during which they study a set of general courses alongside participating in two exploration experiences (“Exploration 1” and “Exploration 2”), helping them gain a deeper understanding of their interests, abilities, and academic inclinations.

The ministry stated that the system offers students eight educational tracks: Languages, Law, Social Sciences, Commercial, Mathematics, Sciences, Industrial, and Technology and Artificial Intelligence. This provides multiple educational options that reflect the diversity of students’ abilities and interests and support their future orientations.

The ministry emphasized that choosing a track does not rely solely on academic grades but is based on an integrated system of criteria, including academic achievement, abilities, interests, and results from the exploration courses. This enhances the accuracy of the choice and gives students the opportunity to enroll in the track most suitable for their capabilities and aspirations.

The ministry pointed out that the “Masar” platform will provide comprehensive electronic services for students, including registration, academic monitoring, and documentation of academic records. This will enhance digital transformation in managing educational tracks and provide students and educational authorities with more effective tools to monitor their academic journey.

It stressed that the Minister of Education’s directives emphasize that educational development must be based on scientific and well-considered foundations, and that any development process should focus on the student’s best interests, enhance their capabilities, and better prepare them for subsequent educational stages and professional life. It also highlighted the importance of measuring the impact of any educational project and continuously evaluating its outcomes.
