Turkey to name one of its streets after Mohamed Salah

Local authorities in Turkey’s Trabzon province have announced an exceptional honor for Egyptian star Mohamed Salah following his move to Trabzonspor, a transfer that has sparked significant buzz in both local and international sporting circles. Mustafa Biyik, mayor of the Yomra district, confirmed via his official social media accounts that the municipal council is set to vote this week on an official resolution to name the street where the Egyptian star resides “Mohamed Salah Street.”

Speaking on the announcement, Biyik said, “We are immensely proud that Mohamed Salah, the greatest transfer in the history of Turkish football, will be living in our district. Through a council decision we will take this week, we will name the street where his home is located after Mohamed Salah. We have done our utmost, and now it is Salah’s turn.”

This tribute comes as Salah (34) experiences a mixed start to his journey with the Turkish club. He scored two goals during his first appearance, featuring both as a substitute and a starter, in the domestic league, guiding his team to a valuable 2-1 victory over Istanbul Basaksehir. Conversely, the team suffered a continental setback after a heavy 4-0 defeat to Hungarian side Ferencváros in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League qualifiers, resulting in their elimination and relegation to the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Salah joined Trabzonspor on a free transfer on a two-year contract worth an estimated 17 million euros (approximately $18.5 million) annually, following a historic stint with English club Liverpool.
