The Cabinet approved, during its meeting held today under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, a draft decree-law issuing the Law Regulating Media. The Council stated that this comes in light of the radical transformation taking place in the global media landscape due to technological and digital developments that have altered publishing and communication methods, reshaping concepts of publishing, broadcasting, and influence. It noted that this reality has given rise to numerous new media practices not covered by existing media legislation, such as influencer and advertiser accounts, social media platforms, digital retransmission services, and digital advertising. The Cabinet forwarded the draft decree-law to His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

On another note, the Cabinet affirmed that the financial reforms currently being implemented will pave the way for building a more sustainable and competitive economy in the medium and long term, noting that these positive indicators reflect the strength, resilience, and adequacy of the Kuwaiti economy. This came during the Council’s review of a visual presentation delivered by State Minister for Economic and Investment Affairs Abdulaziz Al-Marzouq and Finance Minister Dr. Yaqoub Al-Rifai regarding the state’s financial position as of March 31, 2026, and a visual presentation on the first-quarter report concerning the implementation of budgets for ministries and government agencies for the fiscal year 2026/2027.

The Council stated that these reforms contribute to attracting foreign investment to the State of Kuwait and confirm the success of the state’s policy aimed at economic openness and supporting the trend toward making Kuwait an attractive financial and commercial hub, while providing sustainable employment opportunities for future generations. It highlighted the Kuwaiti economy’s capacity and the strength of the state’s financial position to face regional and international challenges, given its assets and financial reserves. It further indicated that the first-quarter report on the implementation of budgets for ministries and government agencies for 2026/2027 showed that non-oil revenues are projected to achieve notable growth during the current fiscal year, driven by a series of planned financial reforms.
