Election of Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed as Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation

Member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation elected Mauritania’s Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed as the organization’s new Secretary-General on Thursday. The election of Ould Cheikh Ahmed took place during an extraordinary meeting of the foreign ministers of OIC member states, convened by the organization’s General Secretariat. The meeting also discussed recent developments and rapid changes in the occupied Palestinian territories, with the aim of formulating a unified Islamic position and taking necessary decisions on the matter.
