Axios: Al-Shaybani and Mossad chief held a meeting today to ease tensions

The American Axios website revealed that Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan Al-Shibani met with Mossad head Romi Gofman as part of efforts to de-escalate tensions between the two sides. Citing two informed sources, the website reported that senior Syrian and Israeli officials met on Sunday with the aim of reducing tensions between the two countries. It added that the meeting between Al-Shibani and Gofman came days after an Israeli strike on August 18 targeting the unused Abu al-Dhaher military air base in Idlib province in northwestern Syria. For her part, the Israeli newspaper Jerusalem Post, citing an informed source, said that the meeting between Al-Shibani and Gofman “went well.” Earlier today, Al-Shibani stated that direct communications between Damascus and Tel Aviv were severed following the attack on Abu al-Dhaher air base, and he anticipated the resumption of negotiations on a security agreement between the two sides in the near future.
