Minister of Justice: Significant 43.4% drop in theft crimes during the first half of 2026

Justice Minister and Legal Advisor Nasser Al-Sameet announced that statistics from the Ministry of Justice on cases registered before the Public Prosecution showed a 43.4 percent decline in theft cases during the first half of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, with the total number of cases dropping from 781 to 442. Speaking to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Sunday, Al-Sameet said the decline included several more serious types of theft, most notably robbery by force, which fell by 66.4 percent from 107 cases to 36. Burglary involving breaking in, climbing, or using unfair means decreased by 48.5 percent, from 334 cases to 172. He added that the statistics also recorded a 36.2 percent drop in other thefts, from 287 cases to 183. He noted that these indicators confirm the overall trend of declining serious crimes during the same period, coinciding with the government’s continued development of the judicial system and ongoing security and awareness efforts in crime prevention and combating it. He pointed out that crime indicators continue to be monitored and linked to legislative review to reinforce the necessary protection for the security of society, individuals, and property.
