Sudanese Foreign Minister: We look forward to a prominent Kuwaiti role in rebuilding our country

Sudanese Foreign Minister Mohi ad-Din Salim affirmed that Kuwait is an authentic and vital partner for Sudan, noting that its developmental, humanitarian, and investment contributions have left clear imprints over decades. He indicated that Sudan looks forward to a prominent Kuwaiti role in the recovery and reconstruction phase, as well as to expanding joint investments in the food security, aviation, infrastructure, and technology sectors.

In statements made on the sidelines of the conclusion of his visit to Kuwait, Salim emphasized the deep historical ties between Sudan and Kuwait, praising Kuwait’s significant role in supporting his country. He confirmed that Kuwait has been and remains one of Sudan’s largest supporters, politically, economically, and humanely. He stated that his visit to Kuwait aims to open doors for cooperation in various fields and to consult with brotherly Kuwait on ways to overcome current challenges.

Salim added that the Sudanese delegation was struck by the level of understanding and appreciation Kuwaitis demonstrated regarding the nature of the situation in Sudan. “We found among our brothers in Kuwait a great deal of understanding and willingness to help, which was highly appreciated by the Sudanese side,” he said.

He highlighted the importance of the role Kuwait can play in supporting regional stability and cooperation, noting that Kuwait is “at the heart of these arrangements,” whether through its membership in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) or its strategic ties with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

He clarified that the Strategic Coordination and Cooperation Agreement between Sudan and Saudi Arabia represents a broad framework for cooperation, encompassing four main tracks: political and diplomatic, security and military, economic, and social, under which relevant entities and institutions operate.

Salim spoke about the opportunities to attract Kuwaiti investments to Sudan, affirming that evidence of Kuwaiti generosity in Sudan has existed for decades. He recalled Kuwait’s contributions to several major projects, noting that the Sudanese government is working to develop the laws and procedures regulating investment, provide necessary facilitations for investors, and focus on agreements on the avoidance of double taxation and the protection and promotion of investment.

He added that Sudan possesses a vast animal wealth, human resources, and extensive agricultural potentials, and that introducing modern technologies could significantly increase productivity. He stressed that Kuwait’s entry into modern agricultural and livestock investments could yield significant economic results for both sides.

Salim stated that the scale of Kuwaiti presence has made Kuwait one of Sudan’s largest supporters. He added that this support was never accompanied by any embarrassment for Sudan, even when the country struggled to repay some installments; Kuwait continued to respond to requests for support in water, electricity, health, and other vital sectors.

Salim affirmed Sudan’s readiness to expand cooperation with Kuwait on food security issues, recalling an initiative he discussed during his tenure as Sudan’s ambassador to Kuwait. The initiative involved launching joint projects between Kuwaiti and Sudanese youth under the slogan “Towards Healthy Food for the Kuwaiti Family.” He explained that the idea entailed establishing agricultural projects to produce healthy, organic food for the Kuwaiti market, with Sudanese youth—farmers, veterinarians, and others—handling production, benefiting from the land and water resources available in Sudan, while Kuwaiti youth would handle financing and marketing.

He said that Sudan possesses immense potentials in the field of food security, including fertile land, water, animal wealth, and climatic diversity, which opens the door to broad partnerships with Kuwaiti and Arab investors.
