Algerian Ambassador: Our Relations with Kuwait Are Historical and Firm

The Algerian Ambassador to Kuwait, Omar Belhadj, affirmed the depth and strength of relations between Kuwait and his country, emphasizing that they are historical and deeply rooted ties based on solid foundations of brotherhood, solidarity, and mutual respect. He praised the honorable historical positions taken by Kuwait, both its leadership and people, in standing alongside Algeria during its glorious War of Liberation, and the support and assistance it provided to the Algerian cause throughout the various stages of the struggle for independence.
This statement was made in a speech delivered yesterday on the occasion of the Mujahid Day, which is observed annually on August 20, in the presence of members of the Algerian community.
Ambassador Belhadj stressed that relations between Kuwait and Algeria are witnessing continuous development, pointing to a shared commitment by the leaderships of both countries to enhance and elevate these ties across various fields, reflecting the nature of the fraternal and historical relationship uniting the two countries and their peoples.
He highlighted the importance of upcoming meetings of the Kuwaiti-Algerian Joint Committee, noting that they constitute one of the main mechanisms for strengthening cooperation between the two countries and monitoring various bilateral cooperation files. He added that the anticipated committee meetings will be chaired by the finance ministers of both countries, underscoring the focus on enhancing economic, investment, and trade relations.
He further noted that both sides are also discussing the imminent launch of a direct air route between the capitals of the two countries, Kuwait and Algiers. He considered the inauguration of this route a significant step in strengthening communication between the two peoples, facilitating the movement of citizens, businessmen, investors, and tourists, and contributing to revitalizing economic, tourism, and cultural cooperation between the two nations.
The Algerian Ambassador to Kuwait commended Kuwait’s leadership, government, and people for their care and hosting of the Algerian community, describing Kuwait as a fraternal and hospitable country. He affirmed that members of the Algerian community are held in high esteem and respect within Kuwaiti society.
Regarding the occasion, Belhadj stated that commemorating Mujahid Day represents a national event of great significance in Algeria’s history and its War of Liberation, as it recalls the sacrifices of the mujahideen and martyrs who gave their lives to liberate the homeland and restore national sovereignty.
