Justice Minister and Advisor Nasser Al-Samait said, “The Law on the Organization of the Judiciary, which has been approved by the Council of Ministers, represents a pivotal milestone in the development of the judicial authority and the largest reform process it has witnessed in its history.” Al-Samait added in a statement to Al-Qabas that “the law was enacted in implementation of the directives of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait regarding the reform and development of the judicial system, enhancing its efficiency, and safeguarding the independence of the judicial authority.” He further noted that “His Highness the Amir has personally overseen and closely followed this file through all stages of its preparation, and endorsed the completion of its constitutional procedures, considering the judiciary a fundamental pillar for the stability of the state, the rule of law, and the protection of rights and freedoms.” He clarified that “among the legal amendments are the prohibition of members of the judiciary and the public prosecution from engaging in political activity or expressing political opinions in any form or manner, the prohibition of running in general elections, as well as the ban on publishing any content related to the professional sphere on social media and other platforms.” He added that “the law has established clear rules for filling senior administrative positions in the judiciary, setting their tenure at four years, renewable once, with the period calculated from the date of first appointment to any of these positions.”
