Director of Academic Accreditation: Addition of 8 Academic Programs in American and Canadian Universities

Faisal Matar: Dr. Jassem Al-Ali, Director General of the National Authority for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Education, issued two administrative decisions adding eight academic programs and degrees at eight universities to the list of higher education institutions approved for Kuwaiti students to pursue undergraduate and graduate studies in the United States and Canada.
Decision No. 76 of 2026, issued on August 16, mandates the addition of seven programs and degrees at seven U.S. universities to the approved list. The additions include a Master’s program in Medical Laboratory Sciences at Thomas Jefferson University, a Bachelor’s program in Biochemistry at the University of Southern California, a Master’s program in Engineering with a specialization in Cyber-Physical Systems at Vanderbilt University, and a Master’s program in Information Security at Johns Hopkins University. The decision also adds a Master’s program in Energy and Sustainability at Northwestern University, a Master’s program in Information Systems and Technologies at the University of North Texas, and a Doctor of Juridical Science (SJD) program at the University of Pittsburgh.
Regarding Canada, Dr. Al-Ali issued Administrative Decision No. 75 of 2026, adding one academic program and degree to the approved list for undergraduate and graduate studies. The decision approves a Master’s program in Education with a specialization in Educational Studies at Concordia University.
Both decisions stipulate that studies must be conducted on a regular attendance basis during the academic week, and that the program must follow the traditional education system. Furthermore, students must complete the specified duration of study to earn the degree, contingent upon the graduation of the first cohort from the college offering the program. The decisions also emphasize adherence to regulations governing enrollment and study systems at institutions outside Kuwait, and compliance with degree requirements as stipulated by decisions issued by the Ministry of Higher Education. The decisions take effect from their date of issuance and repeal any provisions conflicting with their terms.
