To the Private Sector: Expand Your Participation with the State

What has recently captured my attention is the Kuwait Fund for Emergency Aid and Development, through the cohesion of the private and commercial sectors and their competition in donating to compensate for the damage inflicted on our country and its national infrastructure by the heinous attacks. This situation warrants a review of our foreign donations, rationalizing and limiting them to those who truly deserve them. Undoubtedly, the private sector is a partner in this nation, and its stance becomes evident during times of hardship. It is required that it expand its participation in repairing the remaining cracks that have become a burden on our country. While donations may serve as an important source of support for the state, what is needed is to strengthen these responsible partnerships so that their direct impact reaches individuals and citizens.

The most prominent of these cracks currently is “returning” to the workforce, a source of concern for youth and families, leading to delays in the Civil Service Bureau’s acceptance of job applicants and a significant backlog in the number of graduates each year. Therefore, the role of the private sector emerges in addressing this “concern” by implementing a Kuwaitization plan and facilitating job opportunities in the coming years, so that the number of employees in the private sector at least equals that in the public sector, which employs the majority. This can certainly only be achieved through greater governmental consensus and support, aligning with the state’s direction by involving commercial sectors in implementing projects that may be subject to a “quota” specifying a predetermined number of jobs. Additionally, incentives for workers in the private sector must be enhanced, whether through labor support salaries or other financial and moral incentives.
