US Treasury Secretary: We will impose unprecedented measures on Iran

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that the United States will impose unprecedented measures on Iran. Bessent, speaking on a television program on Newsmax, said, “Expect more announcements next week, as we will implement measures unprecedented in the history of economic isolation imposed on any country.” He added, “It will be a combination of economic isolation unlike anything the world has ever seen, and the continuation of a blockade in the Strait of Hormuz that prevents any goods from entering or leaving Iranian ports.” He clarified that the U.S. Treasury is targeting the bank accounts and cryptocurrencies used by Iran, reiterating, “We will prevent anything from entering or leaving Iranian ports.” For his part, U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright stated that Iran is pursuing a losing strategy, noting that the sanctions imposed on it are pressuring its economy and eroding its influence in the region. The minister added that strangling the Iranian economy will ultimately lead to the collapse of the Iranian regime, and pointed out that between 14 and 15 million barrels of oil per day pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
