Hawait: We are studying the recruitment of skilled Chadian labor
Ambassador Samih Jawhar Hayyat, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for African Affairs, affirmed that Kuwaiti investments in Chad, the recruitment of Chadian labor to Kuwait, and cooperation in the field of food security are at the forefront of the files of cooperation between the two countries. He noted that the Chadian government will present proposals containing available investment opportunities in the country, with a view to studying them, examining their economic feasibility, and discussing them between the governments of the two countries, including through the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development.
This came in a statement Hayyat made to journalists on the sidelines of his attendance at the 66th Independence Day celebration hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Chad in Kuwait, attended by several heads of diplomatic missions and representatives of international organizations in the country.
Hayyat clarified that the Kuwaiti side is discussing the investment file with the Chadian Ambassador, pointing out that the Chadian government will present proposals containing available investment opportunities in the country, to be studied, examined for economic feasibility, and discussed between the two governments, including via the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development.
Regarding the possibility of recruiting Chadian labor to Kuwait, Hayyat stressed that the labor file represents one of the main topics on the agenda of bilateral cooperation. He noted that it will be discussed with his Chadian counterpart during the upcoming political consultations between the foreign ministries of the two countries. He added that the talks will cover opportunities to utilize skilled Chadian labor and others, serving the needs of the labor market and enhancing cooperation areas between the two countries.
On cooperation in the field of food security, Hayyat emphasized that this file is at the top of the cooperation agenda between the two sides. He explained that the Chadian government will identify available opportunities and fields in this area during the upcoming phase, with a view to discussing them with the Kuwaiti side.
Marking the occasion, Hayyat stated that relations between Kuwait and the Republic of Chad are historical and extend over decades, noting that Kuwait was among the first countries to welcome and support Chad’s independence. Formal diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1970, while ties between the two sides date back even earlier. He said, “Kuwaiti-Chadian relations are poised for further development and prosperity in the coming phase, given both countries’ commitment to expanding cooperation areas and enhancing shared interests.”
For his part, the Chadian Ambassador to Kuwait, Dr. Taher Khatir, praised the existing cooperation between Chad and Kuwait through the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, which contributes to supporting several projects in the fields of health, infrastructure, and agriculture. He affirmed that this cooperation is highly valued by the political leadership in Chad.
He also appreciated the presence of Kuwaiti charitable associations and organizations in his country and their contributions to humanitarian and charitable work, noting that these efforts have earned respect and appreciation in Chadian society.
The ambassador expressed his gratitude to the Amir of Kuwait, the Crown Prince, the Prime Minister, the government, and the Kuwaiti people. He simultaneously commended the role of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs in supporting the embassy, facilitating its tasks, and removing obstacles in its path, emphasizing the depth of friendship and brotherhood between Chad and Kuwait.
Khatir affirmed that his country looks forward to developing its relations with Kuwait and elevating them to the level of a “fruitful strategic partnership,” particularly in the fields of investment, agriculture, livestock, infrastructure, industry, renewable energy, and tourism. He called on Kuwaiti businessmen to make Chad one of their investment destinations.
Regarding the existence of an agreement between the two countries on bringing Chadian labor to Kuwait, he said, “There are cooperation projects under discussion to bring Chadian labor to Kuwait, and once they are signed, they will be implemented immediately.”
He pointed out that there are 1,500 Chadian citizens working in Kuwait, including skilled professionals working in the oil, telecommunications, and legal sectors, but most of them work in simple jobs such as drivers.
