Media of My Country (1).. Faisal Al-Humoud, the Embodiment of the State and the Warmth of Humanity
In Kuwait’s history, there are men whose identities cannot be reduced to their official titles, nor can their biographies fully capture who they are; for the true worth of a man is not measured by the titles he held, but by the legacy he left behind, nor by the positions of authority he occupied, but by the enduring place he holds in the hearts of people. Among these men is Sheikh Faisal Al-Humoud Al-Sabah, a figure who combined the stature of his family, the experience of a statesman, the skill of a diplomat, and the closeness of a human being to his community. I had the honor of knowing him closely, and I found in him qualities that transcended the boundaries of his office: sincerity of affection, gracious conduct, a commitment to staying connected, and respect for people.
Sheikh Faisal Al-Humoud, by virtue of his belonging to the noble Al-Sabah family, carries a historical and social continuity linked to the history of Kuwait and its modern state. Yet, status alone does not create love; titles command respect, but character earns acceptance, and positions open doors, but good conduct keeps them open. From this perspective, his experience can be summarized in one phrase: a statesman whose stance built his stature, and whose character earned him love.
**The Statesman**
Sheikh Faisal Al-Humoud began his professional career in the Diwan of the Crown Prince, then worked in protocol affairs, before embarking on a diplomatic career as Kuwait’s Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman, and later to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. He also served as a non-resident Ambassador of Kuwait to the Republic of Mauritius. In diplomacy, an ambassador is not merely a formal representative; he embodies his country’s image and positions, and personifies its relationships with other nations and peoples in his presence. His diplomatic experience received official recognition; he was awarded the Order of the Omani Al-Neeman, First Class, by the Sultanate of Oman in 2007, the Order of the State, First Class, by the Republic of Mauritius, the Order of Jerusalem, First Class, by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, and the Independence Order, First Class, by King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein in 2010. These honors reflect the appreciation of his diplomatic service.
He then returned to Kuwait to serve as Governor of Al-Farwaniyah with ministerial rank, transitioning from the field of foreign relations to that of community service. He was subsequently appointed as an advisor in the Amiri Diwan, also with ministerial rank. This career path reveals a diversity of experience spanning the Diwan, protocol, diplomacy, administration, and advisory work—multiple milestones in a single trajectory defined by service to the state.
**The Man of Relationships**
One of the most distinctive features of Faisal Al-Humoud is his ability to build and maintain human relationships. He views communication with people as a social value and an ethical imperative, rather than merely a public presence. The Kuwaiti community knows him as being close to people from all walks of life, present at their occasions, sharing in their joys and sorrows, and preserving the bridges of affection that are among the most beautiful characteristics of Kuwaiti society. Relationships forged by position may change with circumstances, but those forged by character remain deeply rooted in people’s hearts. Therefore, Faisal Al-Humoud’s presence in society is not merely that of a public figure, but an extension of authentic Kuwaiti values, where the human being remains the essence of status, and love remains the greatest achievement of men.
As I write about him, I am not writing about an official from a distance, but about a person I knew, and about a personality in which I saw a convergence of qualities worthy of mention; a testimony of love, but above all, a testimony of respect for a man who left a mark in his field, his relationships, and his country. After a career spanning four decades in the service of Kuwait, during which he moved between the Diwan, diplomacy, administration, and advisory work, and spent the prime of his youth and life serving his homeland, Kuwait, the greatest tribute one can offer a man like him is to remember what he has contributed and to raise hands in prayer for him; asking God to protect Sheikh Faisal Al-Humoud, grant him health and well-being, and keep his good name as a witness to the career of a man who served Kuwait and loved its people.
