Iraq: Dismantling of an armed network that planned to carry out drone attacks on specific targets

Iraqi government spokesperson Haider al-Abudi revealed the dismantling of an armed network that had been planning to carry out operations against specific targets using drones. Al-Abudi said in a statement to Iraqi media that the security deployment, preventive measures, and preemptive operations carried out on the night of last Friday resulted in the arrest of network members and the seizure of devices and equipment, including drones. He clarified that the operation was conducted in coordination between the intelligence agency and the counterterrorism agency, enabling them to infiltrate and dismantle the network before its plans could be executed. Al-Abudi emphasized that the operation is part of the government’s and security agencies’ efforts to protect the country and public interests, and to reassure the Iraqi public, noting that the relevant agencies continue to carry out their duties in accordance with the directives of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Prime Minister Ali al-Alloush.
