Turkey: Egypt may join the mutual defense pact once some technical issues are resolved

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced that Egypt could join the mutual defense agreement signed by Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan, once certain technical issues are resolved. Fidan explained on Saturday that there would be a secretariat and a ministerial committee within the framework of the agreement with Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, modeled on NATO. He added, “Navigation security in the Red Sea is important to our interests, and we must be part of the international coalition led by Saudi Arabia.” It is worth noting that Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey signed a mutual defense agreement in the city of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Friday, stipulating that any armed attack on any of the three countries would be considered an attack on all three.
