In the Embrace of Armenia: An Unforgettable Travel Story

Four days of wonder amidst mountains, history, and lakes. From Yerevan to Sevan and Dilijan, a journey into the heart of Armenian beauty, from the Garni Temple to the Symphony of Stones, a tour through the fragrance of history and the charm of nature.
The Armenian capital, Yerevan, is one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world. It is distinguished by a unique blend of ancient history and modern life, making it a distinctive tourist destination that attracts visitors from all over the globe. During my visit to the city, staying at the Holiday Inn Republic Square was a comfortable experience, thanks to its strategic location in the heart of the capital, which allows easy walking access to major tourist landmarks, cafes, restaurants, and markets.
The tour began at Republic Square, the pulsating heart of Yerevan, known for its beautiful architecture and dancing fountains that create a magical atmosphere in the evening. The tour also included wandering through the surrounding streets, bustling with shops and open cafes, where visitors can enjoy the quiet ambiance and the hospitality of the locals. The experience would not have been complete without tasting famous Armenian cuisine, as Yerevan’s restaurants offer diverse options combining traditional and international dishes. The food is characterized by high-quality ingredients and rich flavors, along with local beverages and fresh juices that add further enjoyment to the experience.
The city is also rich with modern cafes that offer visitors a chance to relax and enjoy the urban landscape, while parks and open spaces provide a touch of calm amidst the daily hustle. Yerevan combines modern infrastructure with the preservation of its cultural identity, reflected in its museums, exhibitions, clean streets, and ease of navigation within the city. Overall, Yerevan forms an ideal destination for those seeking a holiday that combines relaxation, cultural discovery, and the enjoyment of local flavors, leaving visitors with a beautiful impression that encourages them to return.
From Dilijan to Lake Sevan and Tsaghkadzor
With the sunrise of the next day, our journey began by car from Yerevan towards Dilijan, one of Armenia’s most beautiful cities, known for its stunning nature and dense forests, earning it the nickname “Switzerland of Armenia.” Our first stop was the Deer Sanctuary, where we had the opportunity to observe these animals in a quiet natural environment and learn about the efforts made to preserve them, an experience that combined enjoying nature with environmental awareness.
Afterward, we headed to the handicraft market in Dilijan, which features a collection of locally made products crafted with precision, ranging from woodwork and art pieces to souvenirs that reflect Armenian heritage. We also strolled through the city’s quiet, European-style streets, where traditional houses blend with small cafes and a comfortable atmosphere.
On the return journey, we made a special stop at Lake Sevan, one of the largest and most beautiful mountain lakes in the region. There, we experienced sailing on a sailboat amidst clear waters and enchanting natural scenery, before enjoying a meal of famous Sevan trout, a standout dish for visitors. During this tour, we also visited the Tsaghkadzor mountain resort, one of Armenia’s most popular tourist destinations. We ascended to the region’s heights and enjoyed views of the ski slopes and magnificent panoramic vistas that reveal the beauty of the surrounding mountains and forests. We concluded the day by attending special artistic performances by folk and musical groups from several European and Asian countries, an evening that embodied cultural diversity and added an unforgettable artistic and human touch to the journey.
Horse Riding and Ziplining
On the morning of the third day, we began our return journey to Yerevan. However, the route included stations full of excitement and adventure, making this day one of the most distinctive of the trip. Our first stop was at a natural area designated for horse riding, where we experienced a unique ride through slopes and mountain trails amidst forests and enchanting green scenery. The quiet nature and fresh air added more enjoyment to this experience, allowing us to explore the beauty of the region from a different perspective, making it one of the trip’s most beautiful memories.
Afterward, we moved to a nearby site for ziplining, one of the most attractive recreational activities for adventure enthusiasts. As we sped over valleys and trees, we felt a mix of excitement and thrill, while the panoramic views of the mountains and forests provided unforgettable natural scenes. These activities were not merely recreational; they also highlighted the diversity of tourism assets in Armenia, which combines natural beauty, sports activities, and eco-tourism to meet the aspirations of different visitors, whether they seek relaxation or adventure.
With the conclusion of these stops, we continued our journey to the capital, Yerevan, carrying with us special memories of a trip that combined historic cities, enchanting lakes, mountain resorts, and exciting adventures, confirming Armenia’s status as a comprehensive tourist destination offering visitors diverse and unforgettable experiences.
The End of the Journey... Between the Antiquity of History and the Splendor of Nature
On the last day of our trip, we set out to explore several of Armenia’s most prominent historical and natural landmarks, a tour that embodied the diversity the country possesses between civilization and stunning nature.
We began the day with a visit to the Garni Temple, the only remaining pagan temple in Armenia and one of the most important historical landmarks in the country. The temple is characterized by its classical architectural style and its unique location overlooking valleys and mountains, offering visitors breathtaking panoramic views. From there, we proceeded to Geghard Monastery, one of the oldest and most important churches and monasteries in Armenia, registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The monastery is famous for a large part of it being carved into the rocks, reflecting the brilliance of ancient architecture and the spirituality of the place.
We also stopped at a local center displaying traditional products and handicrafts, where we learned about a side of Armenian heritage through artistic crafts, local products, and souvenirs that reflect the country’s culture and crafts passed down through generations.
We concluded the tour with a visit to the “Symphony of Stones” region, one of the most magnificent natural phenomena in Armenia. Here, massive basaltic rock columns formed by volcanic activity over thousands of years resemble giant organ pipes, creating a natural scene that captivates the eye and is among the country’s most prominent tourist destinations.
With the end of this tour, we returned to Yerevan in preparation for our departure, carrying with us unforgettable memories of a journey that combined ancient history, enchanting nature, and warm hospitality, confirming Armenia’s status as a rich tourist destination worthy of visit and discovery.
