Fake Judge Shocks Egyptian Streets
In one of the most bizarre fraud cases witnessed by Egyptian streets, an unemployed man impersonated a judge, managing to deceive his victims by exploiting the authority and prestige of the judiciary. The young man became the talk of social media platforms in recent hours after he claimed to hold a judicial position for the purpose of extorting money and defrauding citizens.
Investigations by the Public Prosecution revealed that the suspect enlisted three employees from the North Cairo Court to facilitate his entry into courtrooms after official working hours, in exchange for 3 million Egyptian pounds. He admitted to paying them bribes to enable him to execute his plan. The suspect exploited these opportunities to wear a sash he had designed to resemble the official sash of judicial bodies, and sat on the judge’s bench to take photos and video clips that misled his victims into believing he was a judge. He then used these media through messaging apps and social media to lend credibility to his false claims.
According to investigations, the suspect deceived his victims into believing he had influence within the judiciary and the ability to resolve cases or intervene in judicial procedures in exchange for financial payments, exploiting citizens’ trust in the judicial institution and its prestige to achieve illegal gains.
The threads of the case began to unravel after a citizen posted a video titled “A judge scammed me,” in which he confirmed he had been defrauded. This plea for help led security agencies to begin inquiries, which resulted in identifying the suspect and arresting him.
Investigations indicated that the suspect had obtained more than 10 million Egyptian pounds and continued his criminal activities for approximately three years before his downfall, having used the recorded clips as a primary means to lure his victims and convince them of his alleged status.
In a related development, the Egyptian Ministry of the Interior announced the dismantling of another criminal gang linked to the case, which included an unemployed man and a student. Authorities found forged cards, silencers, and electronic devices in their possession. Both confessed to forming a specialized gang that defrauded citizens by falsely claiming the ability to finalize procedures for allocating government housing units. They also admitted to using a printing press to produce forged identification cards bearing official titles.
Security forces managed to arrest the owner of the printing press and found printing equipment and machines in his possession, along with evidence confirming his involvement in the criminal activity, before taking legal action against all the suspects.
The main suspect and the three employees were arrested and referred to the Criminal Court. The case has sparked a wide wave of anger and questions regarding how the suspect was able to enter the court and take photos inside its chambers, revealing loopholes that he exploited to carry out one of the most bizarre cases of impersonation and fraud in Egypt.
