Spider-Man Film Achieves Historic Launch

Spider-Man: Brand New Day achieved a historic box office debut in North America, grossing $168 million on its opening day and setting the highest single-day opening gross in the history of the domestic market, according to Box Office Mojo. The film surpassed the previous record held by Avengers: Endgame since 2019, which had earned $157 million on its opening day. Sony expects the film’s earnings to reach $325 million by the end of the weekend, while rival estimates suggest it could climb to $358 million, which would also grant it the title of the largest domestic opening in cinema history, surpassing the current record of $357 million held by Avengers: Endgame. Spider-Man: No Way Home ranks second on the list of largest domestic openings with $260 million, followed by Avengers: Infinity War with $257 million, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens with $247 million.

The story of Brand New Day takes place after the events of No Way Home, where Peter Parker finds himself fighting alone after everyone has lost their memories of him. He is joined in the lead role by Tom Holland, alongside Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal, and Mark Ruffalo.

In second place on the daily box office chart was The Odyssey, which earned $14.5 million during its third weekend, with projections adding $51 million over the weekend, bringing its total domestic gross to $395 million. Toy Story 5 ranked third, earning $1.8 million on Friday, with an expected $6.2 million over the weekend, raising its domestic total to $461 million. Minions & Monsters came in fourth with $1.66 million on Friday, projected to reach $5.6 million over the weekend, bringing its domestic gross to $168 million. Moana took fifth place after earning $1.6 million on Friday, with an expected $5.3 million over the weekend, pushing its domestic earnings to $114 million.
