Iraqi official agrees to settlement drafted by Qataris and Americans to reopen the Strait of Hormuz

Channel 12 reported on Sunday that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi agreed last night to a settlement proposal drafted by Qatari and American mediators regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. The channel quoted two diplomats familiar with the details of the negotiations, stating that Araghchi’s positive response was one of the factors that led US President Donald Trump to agree to cancel the attack on Iran. Earlier, Trump announced his decision to suspend the planned attack against Iran, noting that his decision came after a request from Iran and other Middle Eastern countries, and following the emergence of what he described as “the outlines of a deal.” Trump said that the agreed-upon deal includes the immediate and full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the end of Iran’s nuclear threat, adding that the suspension of the attack is contingent on the ability to reach an agreement quickly.
