Kuwait Radio Director Dr. Yousef Al-Sari: Reviving Folk Arts through Artificial Intelligence

The Director General of the General Administration of Radio of the State of Kuwait, Dr. Yousef Al-Sarie, announced that the radio station has worked to revive several Kuwaiti folk art works using artificial intelligence in a global language. Dr. Al-Sarie added in a statement to KUNA that the world is witnessing a major transformation in the music industry, thanks to artificial intelligence technologies that have become tools capable of re-presenting musical heritage in contemporary styles that preserve its identity and open new avenues for reaching a global audience. He noted that folk arts in their various forms, such as Sawt, Samri, Al-Khamari, and maritime arts, represent a rich cultural heritage that reflects the history of Kuwaiti society and its connection to the sea, the desert, and social life. He clarified that re-orchestrating these arts using artificial intelligence techniques and integrating them with a symphony orchestra does not mean altering their identity, but rather presenting them in a modern musical format that combines large Western instruments with Kuwaiti folk instruments and rhythms, creating works capable of standing alongside international compositions performed on the most important global stages and festivals. Al-Sarie stated that global experiences have proven that when traditional music is presented with a professional orchestral vision, it reaches a wider audience and transcends linguistic and geographical boundaries. From this perspective, Kuwaiti arts can be transformed into symphonic works that express Kuwait’s cultural identity and participate in international festivals and global musical performances, serving as artistic ambassadors that reflect the authenticity of heritage and the spirit of the times. He mentioned that these works are broadcast on the Easy Music station, affiliated with the Radio of the State of Kuwait, on frequencies 92.5 FM and 96.5 FM, as it is the appropriate platform for showcasing these new musical experiments, combining calm and refined music while providing space for orchestral works inspired by Kuwaiti and Gulf heritage.
