Ambassador Matar Al-Nuaimi to Al-Qabas: Kuwait's security is an integral part of the UAE's security
May Al-Sukari: The Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Kuwait, Dr. Mutar Hamed Al-Nuaimi, affirmed that the 36th anniversary of the brutal invasion of Kuwait embodies the depth of bilateral relations and the shared destiny uniting Kuwait and the UAE. He stressed that the security and stability of Kuwait are an integral part of the security of the UAE, emphasizing that relations between the two countries are built on solid historical ties, sincere brotherhood, and unity of position on various pivotal issues.
Speaking to Al-Qabas, Al-Nuaimi stated that this occasion reflects the strength of the fraternal relations linking the two sister countries, embodying the constants upon which the UAE-Kuwait partnership has been founded over many decades, based on cooperation, solidarity, and unity of destiny.
He affirmed that Kuwait achieved victory and made significant accomplishments in various fields, and managed within a short period to strengthen state institutions and consolidate national unity. He pointed out that the wise leadership of Kuwait and the will of the Kuwaiti people contributed to enhancing the strength of the state and consolidating security and stability at both the national and regional levels.
Ambassador Al-Nuaimi clarified that the invasion served as a true test of the international community’s will and its commitment to international legitimacy and respect for state sovereignty. He noted that the United Nations resolutions issued at that time, followed by the formation of an international coalition to liberate Kuwait, contributed to restoring legitimacy, reinforcing the rule of international law, and emphasizing the rejection of occupation and the importance of collective action in safeguarding international peace and security.
Freedom of Navigation
He added that these principles remain significant to this day, in light of aggressive Iranian attacks on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of regional states and on international freedom of navigation. This requires a unified international position ensuring the immediate and comprehensive cessation of aggressive acts in the region, respect for state sovereignty and principles of good neighborliness, strict adherence to international law, and protection of maritime passages and international freedom of navigation, including ensuring the smooth flow of traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, thereby enhancing security, stability, and economic prosperity at both the regional and international levels.
Kuwaiti Cohesion
Al-Nuaimi affirmed that Kuwait has proven that the cohesion between its leadership and its people, investment in building friendly relations with various countries around the world, alongside its economic strength, have significantly contributed to mobilizing international support for the victory of legitimacy and the liberation of Kuwait.
He described UAE-Kuwait relations as “firm,” built on solid foundations of brotherhood, shared blood, and a common destiny, emphasizing that they represent a model to be emulated in fraternal relations between sister states. He noted that these relations are the fruit of efforts laid by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and the late Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, may God have mercy on them.
He pointed out that the initiative by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to designate a week starting on January 29 of each year to celebrate UAE-Kuwait relations embodies the depth of love and appreciation the UAE holds for Kuwait’s leadership and people. It reflects the strength of the historical and fraternal bonds uniting the two sister countries and underscores the shared commitment to continuing to enhance cooperation in various fields to serve the interests of both peoples.
