Sisi: Competent authorities have begun investigations to ascertain the details and circumstances of the Damietta Port incident

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi held a telephone conversation with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez on Thursday. During the call, the Spanish prime minister expressed his country’s condemnation of the incident involving two ships at the Port of Damietta, which resulted from a drone attack, and affirmed Spain’s solidarity with Egypt, both at the governmental and popular levels, in this difficult moment. For his part, President el-Sisi clarified that the relevant authorities are conducting investigations to ascertain the details and circumstances of the incident, highlighting the seriousness of the escalation currently affecting the region and stressing the necessity of concerted efforts by Egypt, Spain, Europe, and the international community to halt this escalation. The call also addressed developments in the regional situation, with el-Sisi outlining Egypt’s efforts aimed at restoring stability in the region. The Spanish prime minister expressed his deep appreciation for these efforts, and both sides emphasized the importance of peaceful resolution of conflicts to preserve peace and security in the Middle East. The Spanish prime minister stressed the necessity of the United Nations playing its role in stopping the ongoing war, and also underscored the importance of reaching a just solution to the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution. President el-Sisi, for his part, reaffirmed Egypt’s full solidarity with Spain in light of the recent wildfires that affected some Spanish regions, offering sincere condolences to the victims of the crisis and wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
