Neymar confirms international retirement: I gave my blood and life to Brazil

Brazilian star Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior has confirmed his retirement from international football with the Seleção, weeks after appearing in the national team’s jersey at the 2026 World Cup. Neymar and his teammates were eliminated from the tournament, held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, in the round of 16 following a 2-1 defeat to Norway. In comments cited by Eurosport on Wednesday, the 34-year-old Neymar said, “My time with the national team is over.” He added, “I made history, I was very happy, I gave my blood and my life. I have always fought for the yellow shirt, but I don’t want that anymore.” Neymar is the all-time top scorer for his country with 80 goals in 130 appearances, in addition to 59 assists. He won the Confederations Cup with his teammates in 2013 and the Olympic gold medal in 2016.
