Mukhtar al-Sadr: Condemned the brazen actions of militias dragging Iraq into a futile war

Iraqi Sadr Movement leader Muqtada al-Sadr expressed his condemnation of what he described as “the rude actions of militias dragging Iraq into a war with no purpose,” calling on the Iraqi government to restore security and assert sovereignty. In a statement, al-Sadr said: “I condemn the rude actions of the militias that are dragging Iraq into a war with no purpose, and I call on the Iraqi government to restore security, assert sovereignty, and work diligently to ensure the safety of the Iraqi people and their holy sites, and to avoid being drawn into abhorrent sectarian superstitions.” He also demanded that what he termed “unruly militias” refrain from providing excuses for targeting Iraqi territory.
