Saudi Arabia: Intercepts convoys that attempted to target oil facilities in the Eastern Region

Saudi Defense Ministry spokesperson Brigadier General Turki Al-Maliki announced on Tuesday that air defenses intercepted and destroyed a number of drones in recent hours, which had attempted to target oil facilities in the Eastern Province. He clarified that these terrorist attempts were launched again from Iraqi territory and carried out by Iran-backed terrorist militias. The spokesperson for the Saudi Ministry of Defense affirmed the Kingdom’s inherent right to defend itself and its assets, and its retention of the right to respond at the time and place of its choosing.

For its part, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the Kingdom’s strongest condemnation of the continued launching of drones by Iran-backed militias in Iraq to target oil facilities in the Eastern Province. Saudi Arabia reiterated its resolve to safeguard its security and sovereignty, and its lawful and legitimate right to take all necessary measures to respond to sources of aggression and deter aggressors. The Kingdom also reaffirmed the necessity for the Iraqi government to take all required steps to ensure that its territory is not used as a launching pad for aggression.
