Kuwait Environment Public Authority: Enhancing Awareness of Kuwait's Natural Issues and Its Diverse Elements

The Kuwait Society for the Protection of Marine Life (KSPML) has underscored the importance of protecting and preserving Kuwait’s natural components, which are rich in marine and terrestrial wildlife elements, as well as safeguarding habitats and sites of ecological sensitivity. Dr. Wijdan Al-Aqab, President of the Society, told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on the occasion of World Nature Conservation Day, observed annually on July 28, that “the Society seeks, through these celebrations, to raise awareness about Kuwait’s natural issues and its diverse elements.”

She added that the Society is a member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and chairs the National Permanent Committee of the IUCN in Kuwait. The committee includes representatives from government and civil society entities and discusses various relevant matters, most notably preparations for regional nature conservation forums and key preparations for upcoming congresses of the IUCN World Conservation Congress.

Dr. Al-Aqab noted that the Society broadcasts a series of documentaries on Kuwait’s wildlife through the IUCN channel, in addition to maintaining distinguished international cooperation with the Union, through which it provides periodic status reports on national and community efforts in the fields of wildlife and biodiversity.

In this regard, the Society has launched eight editions of its annual “Kuwait Wildlife Documentary Series,” highlighting components of the living environment, such as terrestrial and marine plants and animals, in no fewer than 250 high-quality television episodes produced at the local level.
