Ministry of Commerce Determines Eligible Categories for Receiving Subsidized Goods

The Minister of Commerce and Industry, Osama Al-Boudi, issued a ministerial decree specifying the categories eligible to receive subsidized food rations. Article One of the decree, which Al-Qabas has reviewed, amends Item 1 of Article Five of Ministerial Decision No. 216 of 2014, stipulating that the eligible categories for receiving subsidized food rations are: Kuwaiti citizens and their families, as well as their domestic workers. Article Two cancels all provisions that establish or regulate the distribution or use of subsidized food rations for anyone other than the categories specified in this decree. Article Three emphasizes the suspension of subsidized food rations allocated to any ration card holder proven to have resold or transferred the rations to others, with violators referred to the competent authorities to take the necessary legal action against them. Article Four mandates that all officials, within their respective areas of responsibility, implement this decree, which takes effect from the date of its issuance, repeals any conflicting provisions, and is published in the Official Gazette. Additionally, a senior source at the Ministry of Commerce told Al-Qabas that the children of Kuwaiti women and their husbands are eligible to receive rations, provided that the ration card is registered under the Kuwaiti woman’s name.
