Iraq: We will not allow our territory to be used as a launching pad for any aggression against brotherly countries

The Iraqi Prime Minister’s Office confirmed on Monday that Baghdad is committed to not allowing Iraqi territory to be used as a transit route or launching pad for any attacks on neighboring countries. The Iraqi News Agency reported that Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ali al-Zaidi directed the relevant security authorities to investigate claims made in a statement by the Ministry of Defense of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which alleged that the Kingdom was targeted by drones launched from Iraqi territory.

In a statement, spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Sabah al-Nu’man, said the Iraqi government reaffirmed its constitutional and steadfast commitment to the principles of good neighborliness, and to not allowing Iraqi territory to be used as a transit route or launching pad for any attack targeting friendly or sister countries. It is gathering evidence and information and will take legal action against anyone proven to be involved in such acts, based on the findings of the investigations.

He added, “The government also reaffirms that relations with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are firm and deep fraternal relations, based on mutual respect, shared interests, and the principles of good neighborliness. It will not allow any attempt to undermine or harm these relations, and will continue to work resolutely to protect Iraq’s security and enhance its sovereignty, while preserving the security and stability of its Arab and regional environment.”
