Jürgen Klopp appointed head coach of the German national team until 2030

The German Football Association (DFB) announced on Friday the appointment of former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp as head coach of the German national team until 2030. Earlier this month, DFB officials traveled to New York to hold talks with Klopp, who serves as global head of football at Red Bull and also worked as an analyst for the German network Magenta TV throughout the World Cup in North America.

At a press conference in Frankfurt, DFB president Bernd Neuendorf said, “We are extremely pleased to be able to present Jürgen Klopp as our new coach today.”

Klopp replaces Julian Nagelsmann, who resigned as Germany’s head coach on July 3, 2026, after the national team’s early exit in the Round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup, following a penalty shootout loss to Paraguay.

Klopp left his previous club, Liverpool, in the summer of 2024, a year before the end of his contract, citing significant pressure and a desire for a break. He subsequently took on a managerial role away from the pressures of head coaching, becoming Red Bull’s global head of football operations, a position he continues to hold.
