Rubio addressing Iraqji: The equation is not "an eye for an eye," but rather the whole head for an eye.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, responding to his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi, stated that the equation is not “an eye for an eye, but we will pull out the entire head in exchange for an eye.” Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit in Manila, Rubio said that “Iran is begging us, directly and indirectly, saying: Let us reach an agreement, let us talk.” He added that every time the United States and Iran agree to a ceasefire deal, Iranian officials either violate it or seek to change it. He continued: “So, they will continue to pay the price, and with each passing night, this price increases more and more.” Rubio said: “At present, it appears they have not returned to their senses, and therefore the President sees little benefit in responding to their initiatives at this stage, because, frankly, it is clear that Iran is not ready to reach an agreement—at least, not an agreement they are prepared to live within.” Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi recently described his country’s defense doctrine as based on the principle of “an eye for an eye.” Araghchi posted on the X platform late Wednesday: “Any aggression against Iran, including targeting its infrastructure, will necessitate a strong and decisive response.” Rubio replied to this by saying: “The President’s policy is head for an eye; I mean, frankly, that is what it will be.”
