Saudi Arabia and the US sign agreement on peaceful uses of nuclear energy

The Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Government of the United States of America signed an agreement on cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy between the two countries, as part of the strategic partnership uniting them. The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported that this follows the announcement made during the visit of Saudi Crown Prince Prince Mohammed bin Salman to the United States in November last year, regarding the completion of negotiations on cooperation between the two countries in the field of peaceful uses of nuclear energy, and to enhance bilateral cooperation in the fields of energy and advanced technologies.

The agreement, signed by Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Energy and Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources of the Kingdom, with U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright, aims to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, and to support the exchange of expertise, knowledge, and technologies, thereby contributing to the development of joint cooperation in accordance with the highest international standards related to nuclear safety, security, and non-proliferation. It reflects the shared vision of the two countries toward expanding cooperation in the fields of energy and future technologies, and supporting sustainable development.

The agreement represents an extension of the existing cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector, and supports efforts aimed at diversifying energy sources, developing advanced technologies, and enhancing opportunities for cooperation and investment to achieve the common interests of the two friendly countries.
