Khalil al-Ayyash: We will work to restore a dignified life to the residents of Gaza

Khalil al-Hayya, head of the political bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), stated that the movement would continue on the path charted by its founding leaders and martyrs, emphasizing that its priorities in the coming phase are to halt the war on Gaza, restore a dignified life for its residents, and strengthen Palestinian unity. Al-Hayya’s remarks followed his election as head of Hamas’s political bureau, succeeding Yahya Sinwar, after a second round of internal elections that he won by a single vote against Khaled Meshaal, the movement’s chief in exile, months after Sinwar’s assassination led to the movement being administered by an interim leadership council.

Al-Hayya began his speech by affirming that the responsibility entrusted to him is a heavy one, deriving its legitimacy from the sacrifices of Hamas’s leaders and martyrs. He stressed that Hamas’s leadership would continue to carry the banner and follow the same path until the aspirations of the Palestinian people are realized, in his words. He affirmed that the movement views this phase as an extension of a long history of national struggle, considering that the blood of martyrs has built the movement’s strength and solidified its presence. He added that preserving this legacy requires continuing to work with the same spirit that guided its journey over the past decades.

Al-Hayya extended greetings to the Palestinian people in all their places of residence, noting that the resistance’s trajectory, spanning from the Buraq Revolution and the Great Revolution to the “Al-Aqsa Flood” operation, reflects Palestinians’ steadfastness in defending their national rights and their determination not to relinquish their land, regardless of how long the conflict lasts.

Al-Hayya devoted a significant portion of his speech to the Gaza Strip, emphasizing that the suffering of its residents and their hardships are at the forefront of the movement’s priorities. He affirmed that Hamas would continue working through various channels to alleviate the war’s aftermath and restore a dignified life to the Strip, in cooperation with the Palestinian people and its supporters around the world.
