Foreign Ministry: Empowering women and providing housing solutions that meet their needs

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Human Rights Affairs, Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Al-Sabah, reaffirmed on Wednesday Kuwait’s commitment to strengthening women’s right to adequate housing, recognizing it as a fundamental right linked to human dignity, family stability, and social and economic empowerment. This statement came during a meeting she held with the Chairperson of the Women’s Housing Committee, Sheikha Bibi Al-Yousef Al-Sabah, Ghada Taher, the UN Resident Coordinator and Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Kuwait, and representatives of United Nations organizations and agencies, at the headquarters of the Public Authority for Housing Welfare.

Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Al-Sabah expressed her appreciation for the participation of UN representatives, emphasizing that Kuwait attaches great importance to promoting human rights and fulfilling its international obligations, particularly regarding the right to adequate housing in accordance with relevant international covenants. She commended the efforts of the Women’s Housing Committee at the Public Authority for Housing Welfare in studying the housing needs of Kuwaiti women and developing operational mechanisms to enhance housing stability and entrench the principles of equality and equal opportunity.

She highlighted the committee’s role in monitoring social and economic challenges related to women’s housing, which contributes to the development of specialized databases and indicators for preparing relevant reports, reflecting Kuwait’s interest in empowering women and providing housing solutions that meet their needs. She stressed the importance of continuing cooperation with the United Nations system to leverage international expertise in inclusive housing and women’s empowerment, thereby contributing to the achievement of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and the State’s Development Vision (Kuwait 2035).
