The 22nd Arab Conference of Heads of Immigration and Passport Authorities kicked off today (Wednesday) in the Tunisian capital, with representatives from Arab interior ministries, including Kuwait, and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) taking part.
Mohamed Kouman, Secretary-General of the Arab Ministers of Interior Council, said in his opening address that the conference aims to enhance Arab cooperation in the fields of immigration and passports, thereby ensuring an effective response to crime in general, and to human trafficking and illegal immigration in particular, which are criminal areas where your esteemed agencies play a vital role.
He stressed that Arab security agencies face numerous criminal challenges, especially emerging ones that are intensifying in severity and danger day by day due to the spread of organized crime, particularly the trafficking of drugs and psychotropic substances, human trafficking, and smuggling of undocumented migrants, among other issues. This places significant responsibilities on specialized agencies to confront these threats.
He noted that criminal activities rely on the vast capabilities provided by modern technology, especially artificial intelligence, calling for the development of innovative security solutions that keep pace with these developments, enabling the detection of document forgery methods.
The conference will discuss several security topics, including the establishment of a unified Arab database on document forgery methods and techniques, which will serve as an advanced reference continuously updated with regional and international developments related to forgery. This will allow for rapid access to such updates and the adoption of appropriate measures to counter them.
Representing Kuwait at the conference are Colonel Haqqi Mohamed Al-Dosari, Director of the Central Administration for Residence Systems; Colonel Jasem Aman, Head of the Departures Section at the General Directorate of Airport Security; and First Lieutenant Mohamed Al-Otaibi from the International Cooperation Department.
